ON BEING A PRACTICAL LADY

1. Shit. When are my parents gonna hook me up with my six figure salary, and when am I going to marry my real estate developer/venture capitalist tycoon husband who will end any worry of a luxury-less life? (My parents will settle for a doctor or a lawyer). Will my MBA be my ticket to a wealthy husband, or at least give my leverage in the pre-nupt?

2. How will my kids turn out? (Will I like them less if they're dumb and ugly?) Can I get a nanny for them so I can resume my career?

3. After a certain time when I have a 'family,' will I stop thinking about useless things like the inequalities at the global scale and structural violence?

4. I wonder how often 'family' is thought about in a typical guy's mind at this age. Guys--you can't even imagine how often girls and women have thought about this stuff from the time they're able to speak. That's social conditioning. I gotta get the security, men--I gotta look out for the kids, I gotta look out for myself. It's my role.
