Long week
Keiji Ito
So I started my new job. I have a 1.3 hour commute (one-way) which adds up to almost 3 hours. I cross the Bay Bridge and take 280 down to Cupertino. I NEED to move closer. (And deep down, I know it would be nicer just to find a job in the city and walk to work. That would be SWEEEET.) Anyone who I haven't called this past week, now you know why. I wake up, drive, work, drive, and sleep. And you know I HATE DRIVING!
Work has been nice. It's really exciting to see mock-ups and do full-on design meetings. I'm still getting used to the corporate structure -- that you have bosses, and bosses' bosses, until it gets to the CEO himself, but his bosses are board and stock owners, I guess. So, everyone has a boss! I would post pictures of the workspace and the models, but there's some kind of confidentiality agreement. Development and Operations are two departments that are in the same building. The ops dept does graphic design, fixtures, and well, operations. Development does the construction, project management, design (amongst several architecture firms), and finance. It's kind of a smaller-sized team, so it feels like, beyond their expertise, everyone will end up doing a little bit of everything.
Also, I'm starting to get used to OS X tiger now. But the thing is, I STILL don't have a 2-button mouse with scroll. Hopefully I can get one next week. I'm really struggling with one button. :)
This weekend I need to start looking for a 1-bedroom in SF. Easy street parking and a neighborhood along Market St would be nice. Any referrals or recommendations would be a plus!
