another archi-weekend

double house in utrecht, mvrdv

cinnamon rolls at tartine bakery, overwelming 70s vibe at monastery-like sea ranch, 'peep windows' (or 'light gaps'?) at both sea ranch and the man-made tunnel at sutro baths, williamsburg versus mission, a (mildly) elitist brother, why don't they sell white e-flute in nyc, finger puppets at arch + their huge boston terrier, calendar with enormous helvetica numbers, wrestling bear dogs and svelte greyhounds, black bronze cast with sand imprint & thomas kinkade jigzaw puzzles, one word: "plastics," shakers on the farm, apple tree grafting, hunting deer with crossbows, curators historians and journalists make memory, the nomadic life, on owning nothing.

architects' love of shaping steel, on the benefits of 'multidisciplinary atelier' versus 'design collective,' chrome and lucite on valencia, STD's in the by-gone days of sutro baths, bad-ass dinner parties (and tough cliques), confectionary, underwelming copper skin, architect-developers, minimalist shingle-siding possibilities, bookstore house with MVRDV-like inspiration (??), fulbrights to china, mean people live longer, on being pseudo-atheists, rodentia power animals, hooting at the owl, architectural theses titles from the 90s (collisi(ON)), how all government buildings should return to fascist architecture (like the mint) ... it's about time for a new manifesto.

hah.. i love this post to death jean.

tartine!

love lists that can bear repeated mentions of dog breeds!

love the list's familiarity!

love how the bay area checks itself with STDs!
(well, that's a bad way to put it)

love the adjectives upon adjectival phrases! um, grammarian's delight!

ok, now, count me interested in new/resuscitated fascist architecture.

i love going to the embarcadero and being around somebody who explain what my antennae are gathering.... in terms of architecture!

i have yet to enter the bookstores of that neighborhood! take me with you the next time you go! i'll leave my credit cards at home! i'll burn my checkbook!

man/she-ra/incredible_hulk: i love mirrors.

i have no idea what that last line of text in the last comment means.

can you explain more the 'exact opposite' reasoning?

sorry. i think in terms of "one word: mirrors". i guess communication just doesn't work that way. i suppose!!

i am not sure how to explain it otherwise. perhaps it's simply because i am acquainted with both of you... & your blogs.

at least all 3 of us share something in common- type! typing! on the keyboard! that kind of typing!

mvrdv! mvrdv! mvrdv! hoooooo! (like a thundercats "hoooooo!" and not a drunk frat boy "wooohoooooo!" type "hooooooo!") pointedly polar interpretations of the english language

i need to learn this Thundercats' "hoooooooooo" mark speaks of.

learn it by the end of this year, and i will be perhaps only 10 years behind in knowledge. :p

whatever that means!
