in / out

Guy Bourdin

"...a bewildering assault on the senses. They are lined with buildings positioned according to no obvious spatial pattern and with so complete an absence of visual coherence that one begins to suspect the presence of an underlying order based on systematic disorder. Zoning in the European sense simply does not exist--petrol stations and love hotels jostle with fashionable restaurants and luxury shops.

Facades are awash with shimmering neon by night and almost invisible by day behind the tangle of cables that festoons them.Yet these banal buildings frequently hide interiors designed with a sophistication and craftsmanship unmatched anywhere else in the world, as if it were the role of the interior designer to create a sense of identity within this chaotic context....

In the hunt for the next novelty, ideas are seized on, exploited and plagiarized with breathless haste before finally being discarded as outmoded. In such an environment, the way an object is presented has become as important as what it is. Hence the design of a shop interior has attained the status of a minor art form." (from)

sorry guys, i'm recycling old entries for new ones. i just can't seem to figure out what i am trying to say these days. i think it's because my brain is all jumbled up and filled with ambiguity. i think it's because i'm in .... i think i think i think, but i don't know!

i don't think it's a bad idea to recycle old entries...!

it sounds better than looking back on all those old entries all by yourself!

thanks for the encouragement ... haha, at least somebody cares!

when you were in grade school, were your parents pretty good about ordering the yearly posed portraits -- those photograph packages where you'd choose the color of the background, and would come with a class photo? i want to see everyone's portrait sets in a progression ...

looking at mine, it's just painful, but enlightening.

YEEESS!

i like how you just recycled this entry, again. i'm not being tongue-in-cheek: i like what you did!

i'm hopping along in my friend's friend's car, next tuesday, to go home for thanksgiving? if i weren't, i'd probably visit sacramento with my old housemate. are you going to sactown as well?

i have the urge to scoop up all those grade school photos and bring them up to berkeley, but i don't think i should.

my housemate camilo, however, is going to scoop up ALL his legos (from long beach) to bring to berkeley, or so i hear...
